Welcome to the Downtown YMCA
The Downtown YMCA is more than a fitness center. Our continuing mission is to improve the quality of life of our members and community physically, mentally, spiritually and socially.
In 1885, planned and conceived by a group of prominent business and civic leaders, the Downtown Houston Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) made its debut in the Brown Building on the corner of Main and Franklin. By 1900, they had begun to lay the foundation for construction of a permanent home. This first residency was completed in 1908 at the corner of Fannin and McKinney.
The Houston Association flourished, extending programs into the community and in 1941, the Central Building was completed on Louisiana Street. That building is still standing today.
The building holds a state-of-the-art fitness center that includes two aerobics studios, three gyms, indoor and outdoor tracks, a four- lane indoor pool, three squash courts, 14 racquetball/handball courts, two basketball courts, two volleyball courts, saunas, steamrooms, whirlpools, and a complete cardiovascular/fitness center, indoor cycling studio, Ladies Zone (women only workout area).
Our programs enrich a diverse group of individuals and we hope that can enrich your life as well. We sincerely thank you for allowing us into your lives and for your support each and every year.
