Event Summary:
An extraordinary and special dedication ceremony to commemorate the first YMCA facility in the nation to be named after a professional sports team. The Houston Texans YMCA is on nearly 5 acres of land and includes a conference room, community room, gymnasium, group exercise rooms, cardiovascular fitness center, youth activity center, teen center, sports fields, playground, pool pavilion, outdoor pool and family spray park. The new facility also includes a welcome center dedicated in honor of Quentin R. Mease, founder of the South Central YMCA in 1948.
The partnership combines two powerful and influential names to benefit the Greater Third Ward community by providing programs including health and wellness, child care and recreational and youth development. The new facility is the first and most visible result of a larger partnership between the Texans and the YMCA. In keeping with the Texans’ stated goal of being the most community-connected professional sports franchise in the world, the team selected the YMCA as its primary strategic community partner.
