We’re throwing our doors wide open at the YMCA of Greater Houston on January 8th, for a neighborhood Open House. The YMCA recognizes how hard it can be to make a healthy lifestyle change and we are here to support the whole community in this effort.
At the start of each New Year many of us resolve to change our habits. We know that change doesn't happen overnight, but many of us still get frustrated when the results don't come fast enough, leading many of us to quit.
"The key to helping those resolutions stick is making exercise and healthy living a habit,” says Gina Peterson, YMCA of Greater Houston Health Living Director. “Research shows that a behavior change such as regular exercise takes at least six months to establish. Too many people focus on guilt after indulging during the holidays, but that is an ineffective way to inspire change.”
The Y has more than 30 YMCAs participating in this city-wide Open House, supporting each other in a renewed commitment to community-wide health. The YMCA Open House is a great place to be active this New Year.
Each YMCA is offering different events during the Open House, but some activities include: free massages, healthy eating demos, nutritional counseling, “bounce houses” for children, face painting, sample exercise classes like yoga, Pilates and aerobics, health screenings, facility tours and more.
