Help Unlock the Mystery of Cancer

If you've ever known someone with cancer, you know that birthdays are a very significant milestone. May 11 through June 2 the American Cancer Society is enrolling Greater Houston residents into its Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3), a research study that will help create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. There are no other cancer studies of this magnitude in the US that will examine how genetics, lifestyle and exposures work together to cause or prevent cancer. Ultimately, this study will save lives and give people more time with their families and friends, more memories, more celebrations ... and more birthdays.

The South Montgomery County YMCA is partnering with the American Cancer Society to offering an enrollment site for our members and the community to help save a life and unlock the mystery of cancer:

  • May 18: 11 am - 1:30 pm at the Shadowbend YMCA

You are eligible to enroll if you are willing to make a long-term commitment to the study, are age 30-65, and have never been diagnosed with cancer (except for basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma). Schedule your appointment at cancerstudyGH.org or call 1-888-604-5888.

new, improved swim lessons and swim specialty classes

YMCA Swim Lessons have changed to help students gain more confidence in the water. The new format features smaller instructor-to-student ratios, more time in the water and online parent orientation. The new Swim-Float-Swim specialty class, for ages 3 – 12, teaches life-saving skills, how to jump into the water and return to the side of the pool and covers safety precautions around the water and water safety skills. The new class consists of four 30 minute classes. Summer sessions begin June 10. Learn more>
