YMCA Water Wise

Did you know that:
  • Drowning is the second-leading cause of accidental deaths among children?

  • By far, swimming was the activity that most often led to drowning?

  • 32 children drowned last year in the greater Houston area?

Building on a foundation of over 100 years of swim instruction, the YMCA has established the Y Water Wise water safety initiative. This initiative has the aggressive goal of  "Eliminating drownings through water safety education & awareness, and by teaching swimming skills."

Water Safety Tips

Learn to Swim

At the YMCA, Aquatics Programs are about swim instruction, water safety and fun for everyone.

The aquatics programs of the YMCA of Greater Houston are about more than just the techniques and skills; they are about building friendships, developing self-esteem and creating positive experiences that will last a lifetime.

Speakers Bureau
Y Water Wise is a campaign to educate the community about how to help prevent drowning. The YMCA of the Greater Houston Area and the Houston Apartment Association have partnered to provide on-going educational information through a speaker's bureau of experts.
