Y Teen Programs
Many distractions compete for the attention of our youth today. It’s important that the messages they hear come from positive sources. All young people, regardless of background, face choices that can positively or negatively influence their lives. The Y is committed to programs for older youth and teens that offer character development, citizenship, leadership and service programs.

Young Filmmakers
The Young Filmmakers Program uses technology to promote positive youth development, enhance academic success, and increase career readiness for middle and high school children. The program gives teens experience with digital arts/movie making, graphic design, word and data processing, computer networking, digital presentation, digital music, and web design.
The program increases academic, technological, and social skills while developing assets in leadership and job skills training.
Young Filmakers and Teen Escape are partially underwritten though a generous grant from Southwest Airlines.
Teen Escape
Teen Escape is a summer trip opportunity that is the culmination of year-long Y Teen Clubs. The curriculum was written to center around the 40 Developmental Assets, including activities such as planning a service project and role playing the assets. The theme of the trip is “A Whole New World in Your Backyard”. This program is a service learning project that will take teens to the four corners of Texas to learn about the communities from teens that live there and then participate in projects that better that community. Every year the program focuses on a different corner of Texas. The teens learn not only about teamwork and social engagement, but about community outreach through interacting with each other and well as those from the host communities.
