Kamp K'aana: Building Friendships, Getting Healthy

June 10-23, 2018

Kamp K'aana integrates summer camp fun with healthy living! Kamp K'aana is a two-week summer camp for children ages 10-14 years who have a Body Mass Index in the 95th percentile or higher. Kamp K'aana introduces children to powerful, life-changing tools for healthy living while offering the fun of an overnight summer camp experience.

Jordan went to Kamp K’aana in summer 2017 with the hopes of meeting new friends and having an unforgettable summer. Throughout her time, she learned to incorporate healthy eating habits and how to increase her physical activity to live a well-balanced life. Rhonda W., Jordan’s mother, said that Jordan came back to camp “more aware of how to make healthy choices.” Campers are equipped with the tools they need to conquer their weight management issues while at the same time offering an incredible experience that increases self-confidence and builds self-esteem. “Being away from home allowed Jordan to become more independent and more mature.”

Kamp K'aana is designed by a team of specialists from Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine, delivered by the YMCA of Greater Houston at YMCA Camp Cullen, located in Trinity, Texas.

Summer 2018 is open. Medical providers are encouraged to refer patients to Kamp K'aana. Financial assistance is available.
