Adaptive Sports Programs at the Y

The YMCA Miracle League program provides children and adults with physical limitations and other special needs the opportunity to play baseball in a safe, fun atmosphere. The YMCA Miracle League removes the barriers that keep children with mental and physical disabilities off the field and allows them to experience playing as part of a team. One of the main barriers for these children is the natural grass field used in conventional youth leagues. The Miracle League plays on a custom-designed, rubberized turf field that accommodates wheelchairs and other devices while helping to prevent injuries.

The YMCA Miracle League program is offered at:

How is the Game Played?

The YMCA Miracle League provides children with disabilities, regardless of their ability, the opportunity to play baseball. Each child dresses in an official uniform, makes plays in the field and rounds the bases just like their peers with the help of a buddy.

The Miracle League is different from a regular youth league in several ways:

  • Each player gets to bat and hit in each inning

  • Each player circles the bases and scores each inning

  • Each game ends in a tie

It doesn't matter whether the child can hit a coach pitched ball, hit from a tee or needs physical help swinging the bat - the game is geared to the ability level of each child.

We cannot change or cure the medical issues facing these children. What we can do is provide them with an opportunity to experience the joy and benefits that come from playing as a part of the team!

We offer even  more Adaptive Sports Programs available for youth ages 4-19 including tennis, basketball, soccer and swimming.
