HELPING HOUSTON HEAL
As told by Shawn Harmon, YMCA Community Executive Director at T.W. Davis Family YMCA
September 16, 2017
"Today, TW Davis hosted the Fort Bend Recovers event. We had roughly 20 support groups from FEMA, local government agencies and basic needs organizations who provided assistance and resources to residents impacted by Harvey. We welcomed over 150 families to this event. Our gym was packed and Child Watch did a phenomenal job interacting with the youth.
I want to thank Jessica Bowswer, Fort Bend Recovers, for putting this event together. I would also like to throw a huge THANK YOU to Kathy Szypulski for running lead on this great event. It could not have happened without her hard work and dedication to the community and the YMCA. Thanks to “Mr. Fort Bend County”, Jess Stuart, for not only working the event, but raising $50,000 for the local youth to attend our ASP. This money will cover 50 kids for four months! Another thank you to Maria Rebolar, Karina Nunez and their teams who worked very hard in making today a success.
It was great to see our friend Congressman Pete Olson stop by and speak to those in attendance. He also provided lunch to all the vendors who worked very hard throughout the day. The lovely Mayor Evalyn W. Moore was there to support Fort Bend Recovers, the community and the TW Davis YMCA. Attack Poverty had many representatives, one being our buddy, Brandon Baca. It is always great to see representation from our Board. Thank you Michelle Moore for attending. Fort Bend County, Richmond, Rosenberg and surrounding areas truly care about our community. It was a blessing to be part of this incredible event that had such a great impact on those we serve."
