The YMCA of Greater Houston is a community-minded organization, committed to supporting the needs of those we serve in our East End community. Since the devastation brought on our facility by Hurricane Harvey, we have worked diligently to make the best decisions for the future of our YMCA. While we continue to identify and evaluate solutions, we have come to the difficult decision that it is in our best interest to sell our building as it has flooded multiple times and future flood risk in our current location is high.

Moving forward, we are exploring options that provide opportunities for us to continue delivering much needed programs and services to our members in the East End community. The Y is so much more than a building and whether we are at a community center, a school, or a pool, we have been and will continue to be dedicated to providing engaging and enriching programs to our community in new and innovative ways. Currently we are focused on supporting our members and engaging the community through programs and services listed below.

Programs and Services

Group exercise classes and social opportunities for active older adults are available at Willowcreek Apartments (7575 Office Dr, Houston, 77012).

We continue our commitment to developing teens. YMCA Achievers, a program for high school age youth, focuses on college readiness activities, leadership and service learning projects. Jr Youth and Government is part of a nationwide, youth-led, civic engagement and academic enrichment program for middle school students offered at Stevenson Elementary.

Part of a nationwide, youth-led, civic engagement and academic enrichment program, our Jr Youth and Government program teaches students at Stevenson Middle School about the parts of government through planning sessions and mock-government sessions.

After School Child Care is offered to students at DeZavala, Franklin, Lantrip and Ninfa Elementary Schools. We are excited that we will be back for our 3rd summer of Power Scholars Academy at DeZavala Elementary. This program helps combat summer learning loss in elementary age students.

This program, done in partnership with school districts, apartment complexes and other community partners, provides free swim lessons to those who would otherwise not have access to swim lessons.

We continue our work at the Willow Creek Community Outreach Center, providing parenting classes, ESL, youth enrichment programs, food distribution, and weekly bible study.

Opportunities for our Facility Members to enjoy activities such as strength training, cardiovascular exercise, swimming and other youth and adult programs, are available through our Citywide membership option.

The YMCA is committed to being a pillar in the East End community - a place which offers fellowship, networking and much needed stress relief. It is our mission to continue to support the individuals and families that call the YMCA home.
