An enhanced member experience now available at the Langham Creek Family YMCA

HOUSTON (July 2, 2020) – The Langham Creek Family YMCA is pleased to announce the completion of an interior renovation providing members with reimagined spaces and an elevated experience for the family. The renovation will include a redesigned entrance and lobby, an updated Child Watch area, a high tech sound studio, a new state-of-the-art pickleball complex with six courts, an outdoor exercise studio, updated technology in fitness studios, an innovative personal training room, as well as visual enhancements including new color palettes, flooring, furniture and more.

“For nearly two decades the Langham Creek Family YMCA has been a staple in one of Houston’s fastest-growing communities,” said Stephen Ives, President and CEO, YMCA of Greater Houston. “As home to the Miracle League baseball field and other adaptive sports leagues, we’re elated to provide new resources, activities and opportunities for the community to continue to connect. Langham Creek Family YMCA is truly a place for all.”

The renovation began in May 2020 and was completed June 2020. Starting July 1, members will have access to outdoor group exercise, lap swimming, family recreational swim, pickleball, Child Watch, wellness center, virtual classes and summer day and teen camp. Schedules and reservations for all areas are available on the YMCA of Greater Houston website. Members and the community are encouraged to stay engaged through the virtual YMCA platform offering exercise classes, activities for kids and families, multiple opportunities for connection, and a virtual water safety program to teach families how to be safe around water.

A Revamped Fitness Experience
The Langham Creek Family YMCA will integrate updated technology in the redesigned fitness studios, creating more opportunities for members to take classes virtually or in studio. The updated virtual offerings are perfect for continued social distancing classes and will feature large-screen TVs, and provide instant, on-demand access to classes for members to complete virtual workouts while remaining safe and consistent with current CDC, state, and city guidelines.

Additionally, the renovated facility will feature an innovative personal training room. The room will serve as a testing ground to develop a community of individuals interested in high intensity training opportunities.

Vibrant Outdoor Spaces
The outdoor airnasium pavilion has been transformed into an open-air studio to allow for social distant group exercise classes. The Aire Fitness® portable fitness studios space features over 8,000 square feet of covered turf space and is outfitted with functional fitness equipment. The pavilion creates an opportunity to recreate an unused space to deliver another popular program amidst COVID-19.

The previous tennis court turned massive skate park space has been reinvented into a pickleball complex with six courts designed for individual and tournament play.

An Elevated Welcome with Dynamic Spaces
The renovation will maximize the facility’s original 51,000 square feet to better serve members. The entrance and lobby will be refreshed with warm tones and wood finishes, an open floor plan, ample room for gathering, high-top furniture, low-soft seating, ottomans, and benches as well as updated lighting fixtures and a new door at the entrance.

Utilizing technology to its advantage, the new facility will transform an office into a “Makerspace.” The YMCA Makerspace is an area designated to give children aged 7-12 the opportunity to design, create, explore, learn, collaborate, discover and invent. Y Team Members work with kids in free play activities that will rotate seasonally with new and interesting activity options.

Additionally, the YMCA is renovating the frequently used Child Watch area with designated spaces for appropriate age groups. The new intergenerational spaces will serve as an area for older age groups and have been outfitted with specific technology to make them into audio and visual studios with sound and video mixing and production opportunities.

The Langham Creek Family YMCA opened in 2002 and has been home to more than 6000 members from the Cypress area. The Langham Creek Family YMCA offers fitness areas, personal training, group exercise classes, outdoor swimming, swim team and family programs. The Langham Creek Family YMCA also proudly boasts adaptive programs which provide children and adults with youth and adults with disabilities the chance to play sports and participate in learning opportunities in a safe, fun atmosphere. The facility was the first in Houston to build an Adaptive Sports Complex, offering Miracle League Baseball and a variety of other activities on specially designed fields. This complex provides opportunity for all to participate.

The project team includes Harvey Builders and GRO Development who partnered together for the massive renovation led by the YMCA team, Brian Kridler and Greg Coop.
