The Y offers a teen camp experience in a safe atmosphere with highly trained, fun and energetic staff. Teen Camp is filled with fun and exciting trips so your teen won't feel like they are in a day camp but like they are hanging out with friends.
Leaders-In-Training (ages 16-17)
In addition to YMCA Teen Camp, the YMCA of Greater Houston offers opportunities for teens as Leaders-In-Training. Leaders are responsible for assisting day camp staff in providing a variety of activities in a safe and well-supervised environment. The LIT program provides practical learning experience for working with children. Interested teens must complete the application process and demonstrate the maturity necessary to serve as a staff trainee. LITs will attend weekly trainings revolving around each of the following themes: How to Get a Job, Child Development, and Business Management. Each week LITs will be assigned to work with counselors in various age groups. Note: LITs can be removed for lack of participation.
To be eligible for the L.I.T. program, an applicant:
- Must be at least 16 yrs.
- Three letters of recommendation from a teacher/ guidance counselor or community leader
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn and work
